How the New Senior Tax Deduction Beats a Social Security Tax Cut

Republicans failed to deliver on their promise to end taxes on Social Security, but they gave retirees something even better. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which was signed into law in July, includes a new senior tax deduction of up to $6,000 per year. It’s available for tax years 2025 through 2028. So eligible seniors will be able to claim the deduction starting with their next tax return.
